Make a spot color effect with colored images: Beginner / Advanced
Starting image:
Step One:
Select the layer image you wish to edit in the Layers Palette. Then go to: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/ Saturation...
Step Two:
Name your new style layer and check Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask. Then press OK.
Step Three:
A new Hue/ Saturation window will pop-up along with the layer mask in your Layers Palette. Slide the Saturation bar all the way to the left (-100) then press OK. Your colored image will become grayscale.
Step Four:
Make sure your new style mask layer is still selected. Choose your Paint Brush tool set with black. When you are working with a layer mask, black erases the mask away and white paints it back in so when you start painting over the image with black, you are erasing the style mask layer, revealing the image's original colors.
*DONE*
The best part about this method is that it is totally reversible. All you need to do is hide your new style layer mask and all your original colors come back!
Continued:
You can also take it one step further and change the colors of the flowers. Make sure you select the original image layer and then repeat steps One and Two. This time, instead of changing the Saturation, slide the Hue bar until you get the colors you want. How about some blue and purple?
